Cie Peterson is a native New Yorker, who began her actor training as a teenager studying at the renowned Gene
Frankel Workshop in the Broadway district. After earning a Bachelors
degree in Communications, Cie's career path took her behind the
scenes, where she worked for many years as a freelance associate
producer and camera operator on different television shows and
video shoots. Returning to her first love, Cie once again studied
acting—this time with noted acting coach Sande Shurin—and pursued
her career, performing in a variety of venues: stage appearances,
dinner theater, a national PSA, work at a Nickelodeon theme park,
two different summers doing Shakespeare-in-the-park, and even some
costume character work for the NY Mets.
After
earning her Masters in Education from St. John's University,
Cie began teaching theater,
working as an acting coach, and directing. She also began developing
her own actor training program at a private Marist Brothers school in
Queens, NY. Continuing her education, Cie went on to earn
another advanced degree, this one in theater, from Hunter College in
NYC. She also continued to direct and coach, working with
pre-professional high school students, adults in her local school
district, and professional actors in Manhattan. In 2000 she began a
ten-month course in Meisner training, with Sanford Meisner
apprentice Larry Silverberg, that greatly influenced her approach to
acting.
In 2003 Cie moved to the Hartford area, and
immediately forged a connection with the Hartford Stage. She became
one of the theater’s teaching artists and began
writing a forty-year history of the
theater, which was completed a year and a half later, all while continuing to develop her own training
method through private acting classes conducted out of rented dance
studio space. Finally, in September 2005 Cie's passion for theater
and extensive background led to the creation of her own studio. Play
On! Acting Studio, at The Exchange in Farmington, is the culmination
of Cie's many years experience as an actor, teacher, director, and a
lifetime spent in love with the theater.
